ABRAHAM, J. JOHNSTON.

London: Chapman & Hall, 1922. 2nd impression. Ulster born surgeon James Johnston Abraham's account of his experiences during the First World War when he served as medical officer with the Serbian, Egyptian and Portuguese armies, rising to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He coped with inadequate supplies, outbreaks of typhoid, scarlet fever, recurrent fever, smallpox and a typhus epidemic. He was the first doctor on location to diagnose typhus, and he and the Serbian Army Medical Corps managed to contain it. [Dict. of Ulster Biography]. Pp.viii/311, 21 black & white photo illustrations + map, gift message "To M. Edges lightly rubbed, the rest of the decoration still quite bright. A well preserved copy.
